Installing BlueDuka and working offline

  • Android: download it from blueduka.co.ke/download (BlueDuka is not on Google Play). Allow your browser to install unknown apps when the phone asks, then tap Install. When a newer version is out, the app tells you and installs it over the old one, keeping your data.
  • Windows: download it from blueduka.co.ke/download, Help & guide, or the Computers page.
  • iPhone and iPad: open blueduka.co.ke/app in Safari, log in, tap Share, then Add to Home Screen. It opens from its own icon and works offline like the apps. The same works in Chrome or Edge on a computer (Install BlueDuka in the address bar). A plain browser tab needs internet, so on a shared computer nothing is kept.
  • Computers per plan: each plan allows a number of computers; phones, tablets and BlueDuka installed from the browser are not counted. Every device appears under Computers, and the owner can remove a lost one: it stops at once.
  • Without internet, the Windows and Android apps and BlueDuka installed from the browser keep doing most of the daily work (open it online once a day so prices and stock stay up to date):
    • Selling: cash, typed M-Pesa codes and credit sales; returns on sales already uploaded (open the sale once while online); new customers and debt payments.
    • Till: open and close shifts. Whether a shift balanced shows once it uploads.
    • Stock: add new products, change prices, receive stock (with batch and expiry dates), counts and adjustments.
    • Purchases: purchase orders, deliveries from suppliers (direct or against an order opened once online) and supplier payments.
    • Staff and money: clock in and out, and expenses.
    • Reading: products, customers, today's sales, debts, the till, purchases and reports show the last copy from when the device was last online.
  • Everything is kept on the device (in the app's private storage) and uploads by itself, in order, when the internet is back. Nothing is recorded twice. The strip at the top shows what is waiting. A big refund or stock change that needs a manager's approval waits in Offline records until it is approved.
  • Discounts offline: discounts on items work offline. A discount at or above the amount that needs approval asks for a manager's offline PIN, typed on the device. Each owner or manager sets theirs while online in Settings > Offline approval PIN (4 to 6 digits, not easy to guess). Every offline approval is in the Activity log, and anything that wasn't properly approved is flagged and the managers are told when it uploads.
  • Invoices offline: make invoices as usual; the invoice number is given when it uploads.
  • Needs the internet: a discount on the whole order, M-Pesa PIN prompts, other approvals, transfers between branches, online shop orders, the pay sheet, reports for other periods, and settings.
