Wholesale, distribution and manufacturing

Wholesale and distribution (the Distribution desk)

  1. Add warehouses (Warehouses) and record opening stock in each.
  2. Give customers accounts with credit limits (Customer accounts).
  3. Take bulk orders and invoices; stock leaves the warehouse when the order is delivered.
  4. Plan Deliveries with riders or drivers; cash collected on delivery is recorded against the order.
  5. Reorder from Suppliers & procurement when stock runs low.

Manufacturing and production (the Production floor)

  1. Add raw materials and finished goods (Raw materials & finished goods), each in the unit you buy or make it in, with buying costs. When adding each one, choose What it is: For sale (finished goods), Raw material, or Supplies and packaging. Only items for sale appear at the till, on invoices and quotations and in the online shop; raw materials and supplies are bought, counted and used in production but can never be sold by mistake. Filter Stock by For sale, Raw materials or Supplies to see each. Machinery and equipment are not stock: record them under Assets.
  2. Make a Bill of materials for each product: what goes into one unit, plus labour and overheads.
  3. Production planning shows what you can make with the materials you have.
  4. Open a Work order: it takes the materials out of stock and, when finished, adds the products to stock.
  5. Check quality in Quality control (see 9i): goods received, checks during a run and finished goods.
  6. Production costing shows what each unit really cost.
  7. Sell through Customer orders & invoices, or a factory shop with the point of sale.

To import raw materials or supplies from a file: Stock > Import, choose Raw materials (or Supplies and machinery) under What is in this file?, then choose the Excel or CSV file. No selling price is needed. To mix kinds in one file, add an Item type column (product, raw material or supply) and choose The file says.
